Understanding Seasonal Pest Control: A Look at Stink Bug Treatments

At H&H Pest Control, we believe in not just treating pests, but also helping you understand the process. Take, for example, stink bugs. As the weather starts to cool down each year, typically around the time this treatment was performed on October 6, 2019, you’ll often see these pests becoming more noticeable as they seek warm places to spend the winter. In this instance, our technician, Shaun, was performing a preventative stink bug treatment. A common and effective approach involves applying a barrier treatment around potential entry points. The product used here was Bifen I/T, a versatile pesticide known for being odorless and non-staining. It’s suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and provides a residual effect that can last for approximately three months, offering lasting protection. For this application, Shaun mixed .5 ounces of Bifen I/T with a gallon of water and carefully applied it around windows, door frames, soffits, and vent openings – common areas where stink bugs try to enter buildings.

Important Safety Practices When Using Pesticides:

It’s crucial to emphasize safety when dealing with any pesticide. As a general rule, always wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). This includes gloves, eye protection, long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. More importantly, always “READ THE PRODUCT LABEL” before using any pesticide. The label contains vital information about proper application, safety precautions, and first aid. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations precisely.

Bifen I/T: A Versatile Solution:

It’s worth noting that Bifen I/T isn’t just for stink bugs. It’s effective against a wide range of common pests, including ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, ants, Japanese beetles, and even termites. This versatility makes it a valuable tool in comprehensive pest management. After any treatment, it’s important to keep children and pets away from the treated areas for a minimum of 30 minutes to ensure the product has settled and is no longer a direct contact hazard.

We hope this gives you a little insight into how we approach pest control. If you ever have any questions or need professional help with pest issues in Somerset, Wicomico, or Worcester Counties, don’t hesitate to contact us!
